Tonight we have two IRC chat sessions taking place:

The first is at 18.30 UK time (GMT+1) and will focus on questions and issues around the Module and discussion on general issues about Module 5A1.

The second, as advertised above, begins at 20:35 GMT. Note the fact this is GMT so in the UK (which is on British Summer Time) the session will begin at 21.35.

Look forward to seeing you at these sessions later

No particpants attended my 18:30 session so I hope this indicates everyone working on the module is happy with just getting on with it. But of course if anyone has questions they want to ask but couldn't make it last night do post on the forums.

Hopefully those working in groups have now written their surveys and are collecting data. I wonder, was it difficult putting your questions together? How many of these 20 tips for writing web surveys did you find yourself thinking about as you did it? www.userfocus.co.uk/articles/surveys.html

Good luck with analysing your results and will look forward to seeing what you make of your responses.

Hi

Unfortunately could not join IRC. I have started standalone, as I find it difficult to form a team (hope there is no problem).
Anyway, 2-3 questions:
The survey I would like to do is kind of commercial, but it says in the page of the lesson 'draw up a list of academic studies relevant to your team's research questions'. I guess there is no such thing for the survey I want to do. Is there a limitation to the subject of the survey? If you need more info on what I search, let me know.
2. How many records is a sufficient amount of data?
Any other things related to the content of the survey that I should take into account?
Thank you in advance

Hi, thanks for you questions.

In respect to your first question I would suggest you have a look at the Assignments that others have uplaoded. I believe that one group did select a more commercial subject for their survey. You may want to interpret 'academic studies' more broadly although this is the focus of this module (and 5A1). Do note that the instructions for the assignment ask you to 'outline previous research in the area' so you should aim to identify some previous research.

You also ask about how many records of data are sufficient. I think if there had been a minimum amount then the module author would have specified this. The assignment is 2000 words long. This may be a useful guide to help you decide on the amount of data you need to gather (and comment on). Perhaps other participants may be able to offer some suggestions also?

Hi, thanks for replying.
There is no previous research it seems, I am extending an aspect of a previous research though, so maybe I can relate it to that.
Amount of data is the number of replies to the survey, but if there not specified, OK. Good for telling number of words in assignment.
Finally, when is the deadline for submitting assignements?

Hi Chrysa

I've now realised this module is quite difficult to do when there is only one participant! The other participants had the advantage of being within the scheduled time period for facilitation (23 May - 10 June) so there were people around with whom to discuss their ideas.

But I'm happy to see if I can help you.

Doing the module as a standalone course, there's no deadline for submission of the assignment. What is the topic of your survey?

Regards,
James

Thanks for you work.

Actually the exercise was thaught to be realised live, through the exchange of ideas and opinions, and through the confrontation of opinions between participants.

It is also possible to look at some informations and resources to answer the questions, as you did and your findings are globally correct), but it was not the intention.

Anyway, thanks for your work, which was certainly formative for you.

Dear Mathias,
Good day!
Thank you for your kind response. I do agree with you that we could realised more through live exchange of ideas and opinions, and through the confrontation of opinions between participants. Anyway, by doing this exercise I could gain immensely by addings info to my knowledge base.
Also looking forward for others work/comments/suggestions.
With warm regards,
Sincerely,
